Dr Abdolsamad Mazloumi Gavgani is the head of Leishmania Research Unit and assistant professor of Medical Parasitology in parasitology and immunology department of Medicine faculty at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. He has got his BSc in Paramedical Sciences, in 1978 from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran-Iran, and his MSc in Medical Parasitology in 1988 from Tarbiat Modarres University, Tehran-Iran. Dr. Mazloumi received Diploma in Infectious Diseases and PhD degree in Medical parasitology from the University of London, School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1998. His PhD project covered "Diagnosis and Epidemiology of Visceral Leishmaniasis in Northwest of Iran.
His work experience is mainly on Visceral leishmaniasis (VL). Diagnosis, Epidemiology and Control aspects of the infection and disease are Dr Mazloumi's particular interest.
Dr Mazloumi has been selected as best scientist of year 2002 and 2003 in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and also best Scientist of year 2002 in 8th Festival of Razi Medical Research.
Dr Mazloumi had colaboration with School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of UK universities and Warwick on various projects. Also his several projects were supported by WHO and Welcome Trust.
Dr Mazloumi's current research activities are focused on different aspects of VL in endemic Foci of Kalaybar and Ahar districts in East Azarbaijan province, North west of Iran.

Epidemiology and control of zoonotic disease in northwest of Iran (A pilot project to develop a multi-agency geographic information system for integrated disease surveillance and control of leishmaniasis
Analysis and manipulation of T cell function in acute visceral leishmaniasis
Production of polyclonal antibody against Leishmania infantum for producing Leishmania urinary antigen diagnostic kit
